Biography
AFROTONIC was founded in 2006 by Kwame Selormey (from Ghana) and Veronique Thomann (from France).

Kwame Selormey was born in Ghana, West Africa and for over four years studied Ghanaian tribal dance and West African Cultural Values. He has performed with a number of Ghanaian groups and together with Veronique founded AFROTONIC in 2006. Kwame has a strong involvement with the
African community in Australia and continues to engage with the community to find new ways of celebrating the African culture in Australia while promoting inclusion and strong links to Africa. Over the last three years he has traveled extensively to Africa and spent time in metropolitan and urban areas in Africa, refreshing the customs and traditions of his people.

Veronique Thomann discovered African Dance in her native Paris where she learned from Senegalese teacher Ana Camara. She then moved to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean and continued her training there for the next five years. Since arriving in Australia, Veronique has developed her skills as a choreographer and performer in African Dance and together with Kwame founded AFROTONIC. To expand her repertoire, Veronique continues to attend workshops in Australia and overseas with master dancers from Ivory Coast, Ghana, Congo, Guinea and Senegal. She is passionate about African Dance and loves to share with others the joy that it has brought in her life.

There are benefits on so many levels because Afrotonic classes help address the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the individual and the community.
Physical/Body Level:
• Enhanced general health & well-being
• Better coordination, flexibility, balance & spinal mobility
• Increased energy levels, muscle tone& cardio fitness
• Improved posture
• Increased awareness of the physical self in motion
Emotional/Mind Level:
• More happiness & joy
• Reduced stress levels
• Increased self-confidence & esteem
• Ability for self-expression, intuition & creativity
• A deeper connection with yourself & others
• A great way to socalize & make new friends
Spiritual/Soul Level:
Dance therapists believe that mental and emotional problems are often held in the body in the form of muscle tension and constrained movement patterns. African dance has the power to heal this through body awareness and by connecting humans to their own spirit and internal rhythmic force.
